Home The Appliance Servicing Department at Kwantlen University College is the only full-time programme in Canada offering Appliance Servicing as a career. Graduate students over the last 42 years are successfully employed as technicians, owners, managers, and technical trainers in the Appliance industry in BC, Canada & United States. Our graduates also are working in commercial cooking servicing, vending machine repair, furnace and fireplace service, as well as other "electromechanical" occupations. Students from across Canada are registered in our programme. All our students are registered with the ITA (Industrial Training Authority) as 1st year apprentices. We are located in Surrey, BC, Canada. Who takes this course? Our goal is to graduate technicians that can successfully be employed by service companies, utilizing the most effective training methods, and endeavouring to keep abreast of the significant technological advances in modern appliances. The requirements for completing an apprenticeship as an appliance service
technician is 5040 hours of on-the-job training, eight weeks of technical
training in each of the first and second years and six weeks of technical
training in the third year. The appliance service technician is a red-seal
trade. Refer to

Graduates from the appliance service technician thirty-nine week Kwantlen University College program will acquire credit for all three levels of technical training. Candidates will write an inter-provincial examination after completing the thirty-nine week program.
After completing the appliance service technician program individuals will need to acquire employment in the field. Several employers in the lower mainland are actively involved in training apprentices. Individuals wishing to identify employers who are hiring would be able to acquire up-to-date information from their instructors or by referring to employment websites – www.workopolis.com or www.workinfonet.bc.ca Apart from the completion of the three levels of technical training individuals are expected to complete 5040 hours of on-the-job training. Refer to the Apprenticeship Training section for additional information on apprenticeship registration procedures and the responsibilities of the apprentice.
Once an individual has completed the thirty-nine week Appliance Service Technician program at Kwantlen University College, the 5040 hours of work-based training and achieved a 70% or higher on the Inter-provincial Appliance Service Technician examination under the guidelines of apprenticeship training they would receive a
